Moniga Municipality Launches Housing and Transit Initiatives

The new Municipal Administration of Moniga is certainly full of enthusiasm and a desire to take action, as evidenced by a series of new initiatives. In recent city council meetings, convened in quick succession and presided over by Mayor Massimo Pollini, the approval of the new statute was passed, projects for affordable housing were launched, and a minibus service was introduced that connects the outskirts to the town center. These are significant changes for a municipality with only 1,700 inhabitants, emphasizes Pollini, but one that holds considerable tourist importance (consider that in July and August, local tourist presence exceeds 30,000 visitors). Here are the details: it is planned to create a council president separate from the mayor to provide greater autonomy and credibility to the council itself; a conference of group leaders will be established to participate in the most important decisions regarding the approval of acts. The group leaders are: Manuela Vezzola for the majority, Francesco Bolpagni and Claudio Soncina for the two minorities. Additionally, the statute foresees the role of Civic Defender, tasked with protecting citizens’ rights in relation to the Municipality. Ultimately, as Pollini explains, “no longer a municipality closed in on itself, but open to wider collaboration with the minority and citizens.” A commission has also been approved to review the building regulation to make it more compliant with the new regulations and better suited to the town’s needs. It includes Fausto Dester as president; Remo Bazzoli and Patrizia Avigo; for the minority, Claudio Soncina and Francesco Bolpagni, who will also be supported by external technicians. One month after the inauguration of the new council, a housing program has been launched. The municipal administration announced its intention to develop a plan for affordable housing, including property rights apartments, surface rights apartments, and rental units. “Anyone interested,” – explains Pollini – “in order to prepare an intervention aligned with actual needs, must submit an application to the Municipality by the end of August, specifying the type and requirements of the housing they wish to acquire.” Another highly useful and innovative initiative is the free minibus service, operational from June 25th, which will run throughout the summer period. The service begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 6:20 p.m., with a continuous schedule. Seventeen peripheral stops are connected to the town center, all part of the same route.
