Monsignor Riboldi Discusses Family Values at Alto Mantovano Event

The Supercinema was crowded on Friday evening for the intervention of Monsignor Antonio Riboldi, emeritus bishop of Acerra. His visit to the city of Alto Mantovano was part of the celebrations for the Jubilee of the Family, organized by the parish of Santi Nazario e Celso.

Topics Addressed and the Bishop’s Speech

“What family for the year 2000?” was indeed the title of the evening, although the bishop did not shy away from touching on various current topics and sharing some amusing anecdotes from his childhood, keeping the audience engaged for two hours.

«Today’s society is characterized by a lack of values — began Monsignor Riboldi —. We place importance on aspects of life that have no future; we lack an eschatological vision. Fidelity, a core value of marriage and therefore of the family, has disappeared».

The bishop did not spare criticisms of the television and mass media world, which impose false models: «Big Brother? A collection of falsehoods, with actors pretending to represent real life. We are now voyeurs peeking through the keyhole», commented the prelate.

Positions on Ethical and Social Issues

Monsignor Riboldi then issued harsh words against same-sex couples, divorce, abortion, and civil unions: «Today they call these cohabitations without marriage, but for us, they were simply concubines.» According to the bishop, in addition to fidelity, maintaining a united family requires keeping a certain distinction of roles between man and woman, and it is important not to deprive people of motherhood and fatherhood, through some types of artificial insemination that science is now proposing.
