Montichiari has witnessed the conclusion of a long legal battle involving Dr. Carlo Mosca, the former head of the emergency department, who was recently acquitted of murder charges. After spending 522 days under house arrest, the Court of Appeal in Brescia awarded the doctor compensation for unjust detention, granting him an amount exceeding the minimum stipulated, thereby highlighting the severity of the situation he faced. The initial accusation claimed that Mosca had administered lethal drugs to two Covid-19 patients during the pandemic emergency, but after a lengthy trial and several rulings, his innocence was definitively established in February 2024.
The decision by the Attorney General not to appeal to the Supreme Court has closed the chapter on this dramatic case. Defended by lawyers Michele Bontempi and Elena Frigo, Mosca has consistently maintained his innocence. The recognition of damages discussed last November not only represents financial compensation but also serves as an important moral vindication for the doctor, who can finally reclaim his professional and personal life after months of anguish and stigmatization.
