During the annual conference held at the Monza Autodrome, Guido Guidesi, the Councillor for Economic Development of the Lombardy Region, was elected president of the European Regions Alliance for Automotive, a position that will take effect on January 1, 2025. Governor Attilio Fontana emphasized the importance of this presidency as a result of political commitment aimed at creating alliances among various European regions, with the goal of promoting a rational ecological transition in the automotive sector and defending the interests of Lombard companies.
The new declaration signed in Monza by all 36 participating regions highlights the need to ensure technological neutrality in road mobility and acknowledges the strategic value of the automotive industry for the European economy. Guidesi stated that the union of regions will be crucial for bringing concrete proposals to the European Commission, ensuring that the automotive sector remains competitive and sustainable. With approximately 100,000 workers and over 30,000 active businesses in Lombardy, maintaining the internal combustion engine is considered essential to avoid severe economic consequences in the global context.
