Monzambano’s Revised Castle Square Opens After Controversy and Renovation

New incentive for hill tourism. In the ancient castle, the renovation of the square, small but highly evocative, has been completed. Among other improvements, a beautiful cobblestone paving has been laid.

Interventions and Controversies

The project, which lasted nearly two years and cost 354 million euros, was laborious and contentious. Initially, work had to be halted due to the discovery of human remains; later, criticism was raised regarding the construction of the new staircase.

Regarding the latter, Maurizio Pellizzer, the mayor, stated that «those protesting must present their reasons and bear the costs of an alternative arrangement, as the entire project was authorized by the Sovrintendenza and the municipality cannot see a substantial expense rendered useless. It would be a waste of public funds».

Future Developments and Management

The small square will be entrusted to the “Rievocazione Storica” association. The Municipality also intends to purchase part of the land within the castle and to establish a museum.

This aims to increase points of interest for visitors to Monzambano with the goal of better understanding its history and traditions.

Inauguration

The renovated square will be inaugurated by the end of March.
