Municipal Waste Collection Revamped with New Fleet and Eco-Friendly Initiatives
With the month of July, the new waste collection service has begun across the entire municipal territory. Coordinated with the Consorzio di bacino Verona2 del Quadrilatero – which includes the municipalities of Peschiera, Castelnuovo, Villafranca, Sona, Valeggio, San Martino Buon Albergo, Sant’Ambrogio, and Povegliano – the service has been awarded through a temporary joint venture formed by Serit srl, Amia Spa, Aspica srl, and Waste Management Italia spa.
Details on the renewal and new collections
The awarding of the contract was an opportunity for a gradual renewal of the vehicle fleet, which will soon also include the replacement of all containers used for dry waste and various recyclable materials. These will be upgraded and adapted in accordance with the guidelines of the Ronchi decree.
Starting from 2002, collection services for organic wet waste and green waste will be launched, completing the set of collections already in place, which include dry waste, paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, cans, batteries, and medicines.
Regarding bulky waste, home collection will be carried out twice a month by appointment only, through the toll-free number 800734989.
New initiatives and updates on the service
“Another important innovation,” says Fabio Marinoni, the ecology councilor, “is the afternoon covering service in the historic center: shortly, a door-to-door service will be provided from 4 PM to 7 PM between restaurants and bars in the historic center using an electric van, which will not disturb residents’ tranquility.
We already have an electric street sweeper available and are awaiting a scrubber-dryer machine for pedestrian streets.
In short, we are doing our best, paying attention to every detail, to avoid inconveniences for users, especially since we had to switch companies during the peak tourist season.
“Certainly,” Marinoni emphasizes, “there are still some issues to fix, but overall, I can say everything has gone smoothly. This is also thanks to the ecological sector, which has worked with maximum dedication and meticulousness, preparing detailed maps of the territory showing the placement and numbering of each container. This work will undoubtedly benefit us in the future as well.”
