Municipal Work Accident Douses Gargnano in Yellow Paint
At first glance, it might have seemed to be the work of the “usual” thug armed with a spray can who had fun painting yellow walls, doors, eight parked cars, and even the entrance and part of the railing of Villa Feltrinelli, the luxurious hotel recently inaugurated in Gargnano, which for two years served as Benito Mussolini’s residence. But that saffron-colored streak was too long – over six hundred meters – to be the work of a spray artist. The high streak measuring no more than three centimeters runs from the Fontanella public park to San Giacomo di Gargnano.
The color and location of the incident
The yellow, to say the least, that yesterday morning dominated the square in Gargnano was quickly resolved. It was a … work-related accident. The employee of a company hired by the Municipality to redraw the horizontal signage, after leaving the town and heading toward the San Giacomo district, did not realize that the compressor, filled with yellow paint and towed behind the vehicle, suddenly started to move, spraying paint on the right side.
The driver did not notice what was happening behind him until, after passing Villa Feltrinelli, he heard screams. Two passersby, also splattered with spray paint — as had only been seen in comedy films before — were caught in the spray. Also painted yellow were the doors of two luxurious Mercedes belonging to German tourists.
The response of the authorities
The police reassure those affected by damage to vehicles or doors: “The company is insured. They will be compensated,” reports Domenico Tonincelli, the police chief. Just a matter of waiting.
