Municipality, Owners to Address Maintenance and Safety at Five Continents
Results of the Meeting with the Administrators of the Five Continents
At the end of the meeting between the mayor and the administrators of the buildings of the Five Continents, Arturo Sigurtà is satisfied, although the process is still lengthy.
“The administrators have formally committed to providing me, shortly, the list of account holders and more detailed information about the location of the various properties,” explains the mayor.
This is the first step to take any action, and for the Municipality to be able to issue specific directives to the individual landlords.
Interventions on garages and properties
“Once the owners are known,” continues Sigurtà, “an ordinance can be issued to intervene on the central garages, so as to bring them up to standard according to the prescriptions received from the fire brigade.
Of course, none of this will happen before consulting the housing office and municipal technicians.” This time, Sigurtà is determined to follow through and obtain the necessary structural and sanitary adjustments.
“If private owners do not comply with future ordinances,” he adds, “the Municipality will intervene.”
Maintenance and management of common areas
Another unresolved issue with the Five Continents concerns the maintenance and cleaning of common areas and green spaces: “We already urged the owners last year to resolve the problem,” explains the mayor, “and they had received a cost estimate. But nothing more has been done.”
Municipal services can only intervene if there is an ordinance from the fire brigade and the Local Health Authority (Azienda Sanitaria Locale – ASL).
According to Sigurtà, a possible solution could be the transfer of these surfaces to the Municipality, so that the public administration can directly manage these areas.
