Municipality Plans New Classroom Building for Gonzaga School Amid Funding Challenges
The municipal administration intends to promote an initiative towards the Province to establish a new building with classrooms and laboratories available to the upper secondary school Francesco Gonzaga.
Proposed interventions and solutions
The announcement comes from the deputy mayor and education councilor, Giuseppe Bertoli, who will meet as soon as possible with the school principal, Serafino Massoni. “I will meet the principal in the coming days,” confirms Bertoli, “to analyze the possible concrete solutions to meet the school’s need for classrooms.”
“I understand Professor Massoni’s alarm, and I share it, but we cannot disregard the Province.” Regarding the possibility of housing students in external facilities, the deputy mayor believes it is easier to utilize internal spaces within the school on via Leonardo da Vinci.
Projects and financial difficulties
“Ideally, we would construct a satellite building with about a dozen laboratories, freeing up classrooms within the main campus,” says Bertoli.
The Municipality is willing to allocate a significant portion of funds for such a project, already included in the 2002 budget, as it did for the auditorium. However, the project will not be easy to realize, given the financial constraints of the provincial authorities, who prioritize upgrading old buildings over constructing new structures.
Situation for the upcoming school year
For the upcoming school year, therefore, it is likely that the school principal will have to resort to the solution he himself had contemplated, although it is not the most favored.
This would involve accommodating the two classes that currently lack a dedicated space, in the teachers’ lounge, which was already reduced last year to make room for students, and in an area currently used for breaks and individual study by students.
