Nago-Torbole Fire Brigade Transitions as New Commander Takes Charge

Changes in the Nago-Torbole Fire Brigade

The Nago-Torbole fire brigade is undergoing a transition, with a new commander and a new board. The 32 members are approaching the milestone of their centennial founding in 2005.

The corps is changing, and it bids farewell appropriately to Vincenzo Barcelli (40 years of service in the corps and 25 years as commander), who is retiring now that he has reached the maximum age allowed to retain his position.

His farewell, however, is an emotional one. Many years dedicated to his firefighters cannot be forgotten, nor can the numerous interventions during tragic events such as the Irpinia earthquake.

He will, nonetheless, remain in the corps for another year as a regular firefighter. He promises to lend a hand to Tiziano Giuliani, the new head.

Statements and Thanks

“I joined the corps in ’59,” says Barcelli, “and I’ve been in command for 25 years. It was tough at first. We were like soldiers on the front line without rifles.”

Now, however, in terms of equipment, the corps is up to an acceptable standard (and he recalls the ingenious homemade camera made for recovering bodies from the lake’s depths). Best wishes to Tiziano: you have found a clear path, and I will always be by your side.”

A night of gratitude from everyone for everyone. The mayor, Parolari, was also present at the presentation of the new board.

He also, on behalf of the Nago-Torbole community, felt compelled to commend “Vinci” Barcelli for his dedication “despite recent controversies.”

Future Positions and Commitments

Indeed, the intention is to leave everything behind: in other words, to put aside the disputes of recent months regarding the removal of the local kitchen in favor of a youth center.

The goal is instead full collaboration between the fire brigade and the Municipality.

The new commander also plans to introduce the oath-taking ceremony for new firefighters in front of the mayor, to add formality to the commitment made.

Mayor Parolari immediately accepted this proposal. He also recalled that he has always defended the fire corps as an essential presence within the territory.

The Municipality’s commitment is therefore to work towards the construction of a new barracks, for which a provincial contribution seems imminent. Ideally, it would be either completed or at least with the project underway for the centenary.

The Board and Its Members

Besides Commander Tiziano Giuliani, the elected board includes: Donatello Montagni as deputy commander, Enzo Chiarani, platoon chief, Ivan Montagni, treasurer, Ernesto Cerbaro, secretary, and Giovanni Di Lucia, quartermaster.
