Nago-Torbole Plans Cleanup and Storage Solution for Sarca River Area
“Justified complaints,” admits sindaco Parolari (pictured below). These concerns pertain to the degradation along the strip of land on the left bank of the Sarca River: from the hydroelectric plant all the way down to the Don Gioppi cooperative condominium. “But we had already instructed the technical office to organize everything.” An effort to bring order to what is partly a covered warehouse of the Comune of all unusable materials, but mostly a jumble of debris more suitable for a landfill. It is certainly not a great sight to see from above (and even from below) those heaps of rubble or remnants gathered during floods (large photo). An appalling sight that becomes fully apparent from Maza, even though it is on the edge of the beautiful landscape opening before the eyes.
Degradation and Responsibility
Despite previous warnings from neighbors and some citizens appalled by such chaos, no action has been taken so far. Responsibility primarily lies with the Comune, but also, as seen in many cases, with those who abuse the situation by adding their own waste, discarding it on the ground instead of properly using designated containers.
Order in that area is also urgent because soon (hopefully) the corridors and all types of storerooms within the Pavese building must be cleared of the debris stored there. The Comune di Nago-Torbole has never had a proper warehouse. Until now, they have managed by occupying every available space.
It is planned to gather all the scattered items and secure them in some prefabricated structures — to be placed temporarily in that area along the river. This is a stopgap measure until a proper warehouse can finally be built.
Commitment to the Environment
Meanwhile, the sindaco states that “that’s the only area we can use as a storage site.” Parolari renews his promise that, as soon as possible, the shoreline of the Sarca will fully respect the environment again.
