Navarda Buoys Removed as New Floating Pier Project Takes Shape

The three “wobbly” navigational buoys of the Navigarda pier just north of the Casa Rossa (pier closed the other evening because it was deemed unsafe after landslides on the lakebed caused by tunnel material discharge) were dismantled yesterday morning by the fire brigade, which worked throughout the day aboard two boats in the Riva Gulf.

Removal of the buoys and replacement project

The buoys were pulled from the bottom and dragged to the port, then brought ashore. Naturally, the pier remained barricaded and unusable, but this did not worry the municipal authorities at all, who had already planned (independent of the underwater landslides) to decommission the structure and replace it with a floating pier approximately 40 meters long, equipped with walkways for boarding and disembarking passengers and crew.

The evidence of this “intent” can be seen from Friday afternoon parked in the courtyard between Tiffany and Rocca: many components of the floating pier have already been unloaded here. They will be welded together in about 15 days. Once completed, the entire pier will be towed to the Casa Rossa.
