Navigarda Sets Record in 2000 for Lake Como Hydrofoil Passengers
Another record for Navigarda, the company that manages hydrofoil transportation on Como Lake. “In 2000, we surpassed two million passengers carried on our boats,” explains Engineer Marcello Coppola, Director of Navigarda. He adds: “The increase in passengers compared to the previous year was significant and encouraging because in 1999 we resumed navigation well before the Easter period due to the landslide near Limone that occurred on February 3, 1999. Our boats were essential to maintaining contacts between isolated towns.”
Navigation Trends in 2000
In 2000, despite the regular resumption of navigation on Garda in April and its conclusion today, Sunday, October 29, with the only exception of the Torri-Maderno ferries, which continue service during the winter months, passenger numbers were slightly higher.
2000 was also the first year of operation for the new car ferry terminal at Limone, which complements the other stops at Desenzano, Riva, Torri, and Maderno.
“We eagerly await,” concludes the director, “the Regione Veneto’s approval to establish a car ferry stop at Malcesine as well, to offer tourists an additional opportunity.”
