New hospital in Desenzano: the Committee requests clarification on costs

The project for the new hospital in Desenzano del Garda has seen a significant increase in costs, rising from an initial estimate of 142 million euros to a staggering 255 million euros, as reported by the “Let’s Keep the Hospital” Committee. An addendum to the complaint already submitted to the Court of Auditors and the Public Prosecutor’s Office was filed on September 8, requesting specific documentation that justifies this increase in technical and economic terms. The Committee expresses concerns regarding the lack of accessible public studies and the consistency between the declared urgency of the project and the actual timelines for its realization.

The approval by the Regional Council of Lombardy, which took place on August 4, 2025, has allocated funding over six years, raising questions about the role of the Technical Table tasked with evaluating the Feasibility Study. The Committee emphasizes that this funding was decided before the Technical Table began its work, calling into question the transparency and planning of the project. Furthermore, they highlight the current difficulties within the regional healthcare system, exacerbated by increasing waiting lists and the necessity to turn to the private sector.
