The October 3 long weekend on Lake Garda aligns with the German Reunification Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit), bringing a significant influx of international visitors to all three shores of the basin.
The national public holiday in Germany immediately precedes the start of the autumn school holidays (Herbstferien) in several federal states, including Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, which commence on October 5.
A13 Brenner Motorway and Lueg Viaduct Transit
For travellers driving south via the Brenner Pass, traffic flow on the Austrian side of the A13 motorway remains impacted by the ongoing construction at the Lueg viaduct. Outside of peak congestion periods, transit is reduced to a single lane in each direction.
Local authorities advise cautious driving and recommend monitoring the variable message signs positioned along the primary lakeside arteries: the SR249 Gardesana Orientale and the SS45bis Gardesana Occidentale.
Autumn Ferry Schedules and Weekend Events
Throughout the weekend, the summer ferry timetables remain operational across the lake. The transition to the reduced Navigarda autumn schedule is officially programmed for Monday, October 5.
Visitors can attend prominent regional events such as the 95th edition of the Bardolino Grape Festival along the eastern shore, or the national beekeeping fair in Lazise. On the Brescian coast, Sunday features “Profumi di Mosto”, offering structured tasting itineraries through the wine cellars of the Valtènesi district.
