October 3 Long Weekend on Lake Garda: German Unity Day, Traffic Updates and Weekend Events

Lake Garda visitors in autumn

The October 3 long weekend on Lake Garda coincides with the anniversary of German reunification (Tag der Deutschen Einheit) and a weekend full of events across the three shores of the lake. October 3 is a public holiday throughout Germany, shortly preceding the start of the autumn holidays (Herbstferien) in some Länder, including Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, which begin on October 5.

Traveling to the Lake: The Lueg Viaduct Construction

For those arriving from the Brenner Pass, traffic on the Austrian side of the A13 motorway is affected by the construction of the new Lueg viaduct, where outside of peak traffic days, travel is restricted to a single lane in each direction.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution and consult the variable message signs along the Gardesana Orientale (SR249) and Gardesana Occidentale (SS45bis) arterial roads.

Weekend Events and Navigation

Among the most anticipated events are the 95th edition of the Bardolino Grape Festival, animated by over thirty stands on the lakefront, and the national beekeeping fair I Giorni del Miele in Lazise. On the Brescia shore, attention is turned to Sunday with the winery itinerary of Profumi di Mosto in Valtènesi.

On the lake, the summer ferry schedules remain in effect until Sunday, before transitioning to the Navigarda autumn ferry schedule scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5.
