Oleada 2000: High-Quality PDO Olive Oil Exhibition in San Felice
“Oleada 2000” is the title of the 4th regional Exhibition dedicated to high-quality extra virgin olive oil, which will be held from June 16 to 18 at the former Monte di Pietà palace, the old municipal headquarters, in San Felice del Benaco, organized in collaboration with AIPOL.
An exhibition that, beyond its olive oil focus, is particularly interesting this year also because of the recent certification obtained as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Several accompanying initiatives are proposed and worth noting.
Program and initiatives
The event begins on the afternoon of Friday, June 16, with the inauguration of the display of various oils presented at the Exhibition, followed by the opening of the quality olive oil market. For the cultural part, an interesting visit to the photographic exhibition “San Felice a hundred years of history” is planned.
At 8:30 PM in the amphitheater of the middle school, a series of slides and curiosities about San Felice and its territory will be projected. The same evening, Pierluigi Mazzoldi’s book “San Felice del Benaco and its territory” will also be presented.
Starting Sunday, June 11, and until Sunday, June 18, local restaurants will serve dishes made with high-quality Garda extra virgin olive oil.
On Saturday, from 7:00 PM onwards, there will be a preview of the Mercantico of Lonato, showcasing antique objects. At 8:30 PM, in the middle school amphitheater, a roundtable discussion sponsored by AIPOL titled “PDO Olive Oil, Quality, Tradition, and Culture” will take place.
The event will be interspersed with “Poetry and Music of the Olive Tree,” musical and poetic interludes featuring readings of verses and prose.
Main day and finals
The main day of the event is Sunday, with the official inauguration ceremony of the exhibition scheduled for 11:45 AM. In the afternoon, at 4:00 PM, the festivities will continue with the popular and well-loved “Countryside Afternoon,” which will feature numerous marching bands performing various styles of music in a parade style.
The grand finale with all bands will take place at 7:00 PM in San Felice’s square. The evening dance in the square, starting from 8:30 PM, will close the series of appointments promoted for this fourth event.
Finally, it should be remembered that on June 13 and 15, in the campsites of San Felice, a series of presentations, demonstrations, and tastings of high-quality extra virgin olive oil will be held.
