The olive harvest in the Lago di Garda area is about to begin, marking an olive-growing season characterized by significant challenges. Due to the attack of the olive fly and a recent hailstorm, a decrease in the quantity of olives harvested is expected, ranging from 40% to 50% compared to last year. However, the yields seem promising, with percentages estimated between 14% and 15%, higher than in 2024. The first harvesting operations are scheduled for early October at various farms, while in some areas of Alto Garda, damage caused by the fly reaches up to 80%. Marco Penitenti, vice president of the Oil section of Confagricoltura Brescia, emphasized that those who have carried out the necessary treatments will still be able to produce a good-quality product. The climatic and phytosanitary situation has made the season complex: after a promising start, the arrival of the olive fly forced farms to implement difficult preventive measures. Despite the challenges, a timely pressing of the harvested olives within six hours of collection is anticipated. The olive sector is now calling for concrete support to face future challenges and ensure the sustainability of olive cultivation in the region. Italian Version
