In Lonato, opposition to the project for the new **Garda wastewater treatment plant**, planned for Esenta in an area adjacent to the borders of Calcinato, Montichiari, and Castiglione, is gaining strength. The Lonato district has already voiced its opposition to this initiative, and a public meeting will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:30 PM at the “Don Serafino” House of Grimm, where Gianfranco Bordiga, president of the Environmental Table of the Federation of Associations of the Chiese River and Lake Idro, will also speak. Bordiga has previously criticized earlier plans that proposed the installation of two treatment plants on the Chiese.
The promoters of the meeting emphasize that the new project does not address existing issues, as the treated waters would continue to be discharged into the Chiese River. Furthermore, it is highlighted that Lonato has already implemented adequate facilities for its wastewater management. This mobilization follows opposing statements made by various political forces within the center-right coalition that governs the city, including Fratelli d’Italia and Lega, which oppose the decision to locate the treatment plant in the Esenta district.
