A project of Artivism from the “Enrico Fermi” High School in Salò, titled “Out of the Shadows”, was recently inaugurated in Rome, in the Corridor of Parliamentary Acts at Palazzo San Macuto, as part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day. The exhibition, which will remain open until March 20, 2025, aims to address the issue of gender discrimination and highlight the forgotten female artists in the history of art. The Roman inauguration, held on Friday, March 7, was attended by political figures such as Honorable Martina Semenzato and the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Giorgio Mulè. Simultaneously, a twin exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday, March 8, in Salò.
The project began last year with the goal of emphasizing the significance of women in art through the creation of graphic posters dedicated to notable historical female figures often overlooked in school curricula. So far, students have produced over 557 posters that tell the stories of artists such as Christine de Pizan and Hilma af Klint. The work continues with the intention of further expanding the research and raising awareness on the issue of gender discrimination in the artistic field, thus seeking to restore to female artists the ‘right to be remembered’ that has historically been denied to them.
