Padenghe Celebrates S. Emiliano with Weekend Events and Church Restoration
Tomorrow evening, Tuesday, November 21st, the events organized by the Comunità di Padenghe will begin to celebrate the “Sagra di S. Emiliano,” the martyr and patron saint of Padenghe sul Garda.
At 8:00 PM at the Oratorio, games will be held for all children and teenagers, organized by the Giovani di S. Emiliano. An evening dedicated to fun and entertainment with sketches, jokes, riddles, and, as the organizers promise, “a lot… lots of joy.” Naturally, there will also be the traditional refreshment.
Days dedicated to S. Emiliano
Wednesday will be dedicated to S. Emiliano with a Holy Mass celebrated at 3:00 PM in the picturesque church of Sant’Emiliano.
Saturday and Sunday, November 25th and 26th, are the main days of the celebrations. On Saturday morning, at 10:30 AM, in the church of Sant’Emiliano, which dates back to 1145, there will be a presentation of the “Project hypothesis for the restructuring and restoration of the church itself and the relevant areas,” with a volumetric plastic model exhibited by a Desenzano-based company on the proposal of the FAI.
At 3:30 PM, a Mass for the “third age” will be celebrated at the parish church, followed by a “bingo game with refreshments” in the oratorio hall. Later, at 6:00 PM, another mass will take place in the parish church, and finally, at 8:30 PM, the Municipal Administration and the Pro Loco will present “Bon Bon e Gratta Gratta raccontastorie,” an hour of entertainment for young and old with the Teatrodaccapo company at the oratorio theater.
Program for Sunday
The Sunday program will start at 9:30 AM with a Mass at the Parish, followed at 11:00 AM by the solemn Thanksgiving Mass, accompanied by the Coro Morenico.
In the afternoon, starting at 2:00 PM at the Oratorio, the Polisportiva G. B. Vighenzi will organize games for all children, teenagers, and youth of the town.
At 3:00 PM, in the Piazza Caduti, the Gruppo Alpini and the Gruppo Artiglieri will organize a “chestnut feast,” accompanied by excellent “Vin Brüle e Tè.”
The 6:00 PM mass, celebrated again at the parish church, will close the 2000 celebrations for Sant’Emiliano.
History of the small church
The small church, located in a breathtaking panoramic spot surrounded by the greenery of the countryside, is of Romanesque style, built with a single nave, a semicircular apse, and an exposed roof.
Beloved by all the inhabitants of Padenghe, it has suffered numerous damages over the centuries due to time and neglect. It was reopened for worship in 1980, coinciding with the celebrations of the patronal feast of Sant’Emiliano.
