Paolo Barziza Re-Elected to Yacht Club Council Amid Naval Youth Growth
The desenzanese Paolo Barziza has been re-elected for a second term to the Federation Yacht Club Council. For the former president of the Fraglia di Desenzano, the election held in Genoa, where the Federvela assembly took place, was an extraordinary success.
Indeed, he received a total of 284 votes, ranking fourth among the newly formed council, which includes representatives from the fifteen zones as well as the Navy. Paolo Barziza therefore remains firmly at the helm of the 14th Zone of Trentino Alto Adige and Lake Garda.
Behind him, but clearly distanced, were Amos Vacondio with 31 preferences and Giovanni Testa with 7.
Barziza’s Comments and Future Strategies
“It’s a confirmation, after the four years of work I started in the youth and promotional sector of sailing,” says Barziza, visibly enthusiastic about the success in Genoa, “but we must work hard on it.”
One of the strengths of this ‘sailing among the youth’ initiative is undoubtedly the cohesion of intentions and programs between the Ministry of Public Education and the Federation, led by Sergio Gaibisso, who was also re-elected.
“I would say yes, because the winning strategy to grow nautical sport among young people remains only the world of schools. That’s the reason,” resumes Paolo Barziza, “for creating specialized sailing courses for elementary and middle schools that successfully took place in all Italian provinces.”
Recall, in this regard, the significant work already accomplished when Barziza led the Fraglia Vela Desenzano, which, in a few years, saw a notable increase in registrations among children. This strategy has been continued and enhanced by his successor, Gigi Cabrini.
And the results are there to enjoy: last season, the Maratona club’s youth team achieved repeated successes.
Potential Awards and Future Participation
The future may still hold prestigious awards for Barziza. The individual has not confirmed this, but credible rumors speak of a possible entry into the board of directors of the World Sailing Federation, the ISAF.
The Garda zone is one of the largest in terms of young members enrolled in the Italian Federation. It is also one of the sailing capitals.
