Peak Easter Traffic: 500 Vehicles Board Navigarda Ferries in Garda Trentino

A long queue of cars, motorcycles, and caravans patiently lined up in anticipation of boarding the Navigarda ferries, heading towards Limone. An incessant, roaring line that around noon reached its peak, nearing a hundred vehicles perfectly one behind the other.

The first act of the Easter exodus brought the usual invasion of tourists to Garda Trentino, mostly from Germany. A full-scale assault on the already strained arteries of Basso Sarca, as much as or perhaps more than in previous years. But aside from the “novelty” of the Western Gardesana, interrupted for construction of the new tunnel, the rest was “business as usual”.

Traffic and emergency management

What characterized this Good Friday was the usual sustained, almost nerve-wracking traffic, the complete disappearance of every available parking space, and the chaotic honking queues in the heart of Riva. Everything was thus in the utmost normality, managed with a massive deployment of law enforcement forces, particularly local police.

The most involved points remained the same, namely the most “hot” spots: Largo Posta, Viale Rovereto, Viale Trento, Viale dei Tigli, the Inviolata, and, of course, Viale Cannella and Via Monte Oro, the latter two streets transformed into lanes for channeling traffic to the dock at Piazza Catena.

Vehicle concentration and event management

It was precisely around the Navigarda dock that the highest concentration of vehicles in the Busa was likely recorded. A sort of baptism by fire, this, strongly feared by administrators and operators in the sector, who did not know how the complex “tourist welcoming” organizational machine, hastily set up in recent days under the weight of the tourist invasion, would actually react.

But despite some adjustments that are necessarily required (especially to boost information for drivers lined up, as many wait a long time before truly understanding the situation), everything went smoothly. So much so that by the end of the day, around five hundred vehicles and more had boarded the Navigarda ferries.
