Phone Scammers Mimic Carabinieri to Target Garda Region Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not soldiers, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

having the money, disappears and does not show up again.
