Phone Scammers Pose as Carabinieri in Garda Area, Warn Authorities

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, firefighters, or municipal officers.

How to Recognize Scams and How to Respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

having the sum of money, disappear and do not show up again.
