Piazza Garibaldi Ecological Island Faces Degradation and Odor Issues

Status of the Ecological Island of Piazza Garibaldi

When it was established, many residents of Riva expressed significant concerns about its location, and now, the ecological island of Piazza Garibaldi, situated right in front of the Grand Hotel Riva, is once again making headlines.

The plants supposed to conceal it — or at least partially — from passersby are withered, providing a far from creditable image of the island, especially in an area frequented by numerous tourists.

Discomfort and Degradation

Adding to the visual discomfort is the olfactory annoyance: due to the recent heat, an intense and telling stench rises from the bins, polluting the entire square during the day and eliciting a flurry of grimaces from the hundreds of passersby.

Nothing particularly serious, to be fair, if it weren’t for the fact that the discomfort is experienced in the historic center of a tourist destination.
