Pietro Bellotti and the 17th Century Unveiled in Gargnano with New Discoveries and Exhibitions

A conference on Pietro Bellotti, a key figure of 17th-century local painting, will be held in Gargnano on January 10, featuring art historian Silvia Merigo discussing recent archival discoveries about the artist, who was born in Volciano in 1625 and died in Gargnano around 1700. The event will take place at 4:30 PM in the Parish’s Ancient Library and will explore Bellotti’s works within the social and cultural context of the Garda region, supported by documents from Brescia archives.

This event follows the exhibition “Stupore, realtà, enigma. Pietro Bellotti and 17th-century Venetian painting,” at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice until January 18, 2026. The show highlights Bellotti’s unique role in 17th-century Venetian portraiture and his influence on artists like Pitocchetto. Organized by Gargnano’s cultural authorities, the conference aims to deepen understanding of Bellotti’s contributions to regional art history.
