Pirelli Pirelli Building Unveils Selecontrollo Idrico Project to Tackle Siluro Fish

A press conference at Milan’s Palazzo Pirelli presented the “Selecontrollo Idrico” project and the “Siluradar” app, aimed at managing and reducing the impact of invasive catfish through selective fishing. The event was attended in person and via remote connection by regional councillor Floriano Massardi of the League, who chairs the Agriculture, Mountain and Forestry Commission, along with project creator Stefano Penazza and the team coordinated by Daniele Bertoloni (with Ing. Andrea Michelon and Ing. Stefano Farisè), plus representatives from associations, enthusiasts and operators also coming from other regions.

The initiative is designed around sustainable and targeted measures based on scientific management. According to the organisers, Siluradar allows users to geolocate sightings, catches and nest surveys and to build a biometric database of the species. Massardi said the “Selecontrollo” proposal would require legislative support, including qualification courses, a selectors’ register (Albo dei Selettori), and backing for volunteers, with institutions expected to verify and monitor how the approach protects native species such as chub, sturgeon and eel while limiting the pressure from the invasive catfish.
