Poetry Contest Winners Named at Desenzano Lake Garda Event
Today at 3:00 PM, the winners of the poetry contest «Depends – Lake Garda» will be awarded in the Peler Room of the Desenzano Tourism Palace. This initiative, now in its third edition, is gaining increasing success, demonstrating how poetic composition remains a beloved and widespread form of expression.
Organized by the Associazione Culturale Indipendentemente, which publishes the Garda newspaper «Depends», with the patronage of the Region, Province, and Municipality of Desenzano, as well as the Garda Community, the event will also this year award the top three works in each of the four competition categories: poetry in dialect and Italian, and hermetic poetry «Haiku» in Italian and dialect.
From the Brescia shore to Trentino passing through Verona, the dialects allowed were those spoken along all the banks of Lake Garda. Children also participated, underscoring that vernacular remains a living language.
The compositions were selected by a jury composed of Mario Arduino, Velise Bonfante, Carmen Ghirotti Fabbri, Eugenio Farina, and Tommaso Podavini. The winning works will be published both on Dipende and on the magazine’s website, which can be found at www.dipende.it.
Second Cultural Event in the Peler Room
Tomorrow, the same Peler Room in Palazzo Todeschini will host a double cultural event. At 10:00 AM, the Associazione Culturale Il Grillo Lucente will present the volume of poetry in the Garda dialect «Merlet» by Oliva Andreoli, who recently won the first prize in Garda dialect poetry «Comunità del Garda».
The newly emerged poetess was born in Calvisano but has lived in Pozzolengo since early childhood. Her poems are written in the typical dialect of the town, a vocabulary-rich vernacular influenced by Mantuan and Veronese expressions intertwined with the Brescia linguistic branch.
Regarding this cultural heritage, the author is collecting the latest testimonies, aiming to preserve its historical memory. An hour later, the «Lunario Desenzanese» will be introduced, curated by the Associazione Studi Storici «Carlo Brusa».
This year’s theme of the lunar calendar concerns the «views» of Desenzano depicted in 19th-century travelers’ maps. The event is sponsored by the Desenzano Department of Culture.
