Polpenazze Night Tournament Advances to Knockout Phase After Group Stage

The past week was a significant one for the Polpenazze night tournament, marking the conclusion of the pre-elimination phase, which saw the halving of teams, the formation of the four groups in the knockout stage, and the matches of the first evening of this phase.

On Tuesday and Thursday, the list of qualified teams was finalized: Immobiliare Castelcovati, Industrie Pasotti, FIS Pulitura Metalli, and Serramenti Cadeo were joined by Stamperia FBS, which finished with a perfect score after defeating Diesel ’80, and Albergo Ristorante Vecchio Palazzo, victorious albeit narrowly in the direct encounter against Bar Centrale from group 3.

The qualified teams and the composition of the groups

From group 4 come Gastronomia Garda, also undefeated after their victory over Unica, and Gioielleria Gussoni following an easy win against Alta Serbatoi.

Great balance in group 5, where three teams finished with 5 points, and only the draws could determine the final ranking. Qualified are Impresa Edile 2c and L.T. Elettroerosione; eliminated is Amici di Cristian.

Group 6 leads to the knockout phase with G.R.A. Ristorazioni, after a draw with Immobiliare Valtenesi, and Magazzini L.O., which easily beat Campress Stampaggio Ottone.

After Thursday’s draws, the four groups are composed as follows:

  • 1) Impresa Edile 2c, Albergo Vecchio Palazzo, G.R.A. Ristorazione;
  • 2) L.T. Elettroerosione, Immobiliare Castelcovati, Magazzini L.O.;
  • 3) Serramenti Cadeo, Industrie Pasotti, Gioielleria Gussoni;
  • 4) FIS Pulitura Metalli, Stamperia FBS, Gastronomia Garda.

Saturday night matches and their results

With the transition to the knockout phase, team attitudes also changed: on Saturday night, matches of a significantly higher level took place, although some perhaps took it a bit too seriously.

Exciting match between Impresa Edile 2C and Albergo Vecchio Palazzo: 2C started strong, leading 4-1 at halftime thanks to a hat trick from Giorgio Pesenti, who has been the most prolific and consistent striker so far. It seemed decided, but with patience, Vecchio Palazzo, with a hat trick from Ernesto Baruzzi and a double from Federico Salvadori, won the match.

In the second game, a 2-2 draw between L.T. Elettroerosione and Immobiliare Castelcovati. However, what drew attention was not the result but the fact that L.T. finished the match with two players down because first Gianbattista Cossetti and then Massimo Ruzzenenti thought it appropriate to voice their opinions to the referee.

Unfortunately, the situation did not end there: along with most of their teammates and officials, they created an uncivil scene in the locker room after the match. Disciplinary measures are expected and hoped for to be exemplary.

The last match of the evening was decidedly more “normal”: Serramenti Cadeo, thanks to goals by Marco Zanardini and Alex Vitali, defeated Industrie Pasotti 2-1, with Marino Schinetti scoring his unbreakable goal.
