Polpenazze Wine Fair Celebrates Awards and Traditional Cuisine
“Whatever the outcome, it will be a success” is a phrase often used in anticipation of any event, and in Polpenazze, this saying has been repeated for several years now, especially because, over the last decade, the Wine Fair has continued to confirm the effectiveness of the new format that limits excessive wine consumption.
Thus, what was once an unrestrained drinking festival has transformed into a genuine exhibition of local traditional products, encouraging attendance even from those who prefer to savor a good glass of wine in moderation and without excess, thanks also to the new plastic cups.
Results and official ceremonies
During the two evenings when the food and wine stands—centered around the flagship spit-roast with polenta—opened to the public, the attendance already demonstrated and confirmed the positive reception from visitors.
Of course, the highlight day will be today, filled with appointments and especially official ceremonies, including the traditional speeches, followed by the awarding of diplomas to those companies whose wines and extra virgin olive oils the judging panels have awarded the “Excellent” rating.
Gastronomic events and re-enactments
Of particular interest to food lovers and those who enjoy rediscovering old recipes from early 20th-century peasant cuisine of Valtenesi, will be an aperitif offered, “while supplies last,” by the local Folklore Group “La Carata,” in collaboration with the Unione Sportiva Polpenazze. This event features truly unique dishes, often only found in rural farmhouses where time seems to have stood still.
Thus, so-called “poor” dishes become “rich” in tradition and culture: beans with pork rinds, omelets with various flavors and ingredients, eggs, salami, bacon, luganega sausage, lardo, salami and sausages, polenta with soppressa, salted anchovies with polenta, codfish with polenta, bread with grelope (pork cracklings), blood pudding, and various cakes, including the traditional chisöl, all seasoned with Valtenesi oil and accompanied by local wines.
In summary, a diverse array of proposals that perhaps it would be good—now—for some local restaurateurs to start including in their menus. It would surely be a success.
Due to the large number, it is not practically possible to list all the wineries that have been awarded the “Excellent” rating for three years, along with producers of Valtenesi extra virgin olive oil. These are the awarded companies:
