President Ciampi Visits Riva del Garda for Tunnel Opening and Official Ceremonies
Tonight, a harbor decorated with tricolors will welcome President of the Republic Carlo Azelio Ciampi: the arrival at the port of Piazza Catena of the Head of State (the first to arrive in the city of Anzolim in the republican history) is scheduled around 7 p.m., and all the hotels facing the lake have already guaranteed that the welcome will be warm, festive, and also scenically meaningful.
Small tricolor flags will be handed out to children and tourists by the Comune. Ciampi – who will be accompanied during the boat cruise on Italia from Limone to Riva only by his wife Franca, the staff of the Quirinale, and the security detail – will be greeted ashore by the Fanfare of the Alpini, which will play the Italian national anthem. The following program is very brief and informal, with a stop in Riva not exceeding three hours.
Visit to the Records Gallery and Crossing of the New Tunnel
It is certain that once disembarked, the President will not visit the nearby Municipality, but he will immediately be taken by car, with Mayor Malossini and other officials, to the Records Gallery on the Western Gardesana. The tunnel, which reconnects Trentino and Bresciano, is now ready, and traffic will be officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Ciampi.
At the entrance of the nearly one-thousand-meter-long new gallery, it may be possible to hear the President’s only official speech, in which he has expressed his intention to congratulate the workers, technicians, and political clients (the Province of Trento) for completing a feat achieved in unthinkable timeframes.
Arrival and Events in Riva del Garda with Ciampi
After the ceremony on Gardesana, Ciampi – accompanied by security services and local law enforcement – is expected to arrive at the Hotel Du Lac, in the tourist and seaside area of Riva, around 8:30 p.m. A brief rest and an aperitif in the park (one of the most charming at Garda) will likely precede dinner, which will be served in a very private setting at the restaurant-terrace outside the busy hotel, a highly frequented international destination.
Few authorities will dine with Ciampi. The list is unofficial, but according to rumors, alongside the Head of State, there should be the Governing Commissioners of the Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, the presidents of the provincial councils Dellai and Durnwalder, the President of the Region Margherita Cogo, Mayor Malossini of Riva with colleagues from Trento, Pacher, and Bolzano, Salghetti. Ciampi is scheduled to depart for Trento at 10 p.m.
