With the arrival of hundreds of young people, Peschiera del Garda and Castelnuovo del Garda have once again come under the spotlight regarding public safety, with law enforcement actively engaged in targeted checks. Since May, the lakeside towns have witnessed a significant increase in groups of young individuals, some of whom have exhibited behaviors deemed disruptive. In particular, a brawl that broke out on Thursday evening along the Garibaldi promenade raised concerns about the potential instability of the situation. In response, the Carabinieri, police, and financial guard have intensified preventive checks along the coastal stretch between the Peschiera train station and Campanello beach.
Mayors Orietta Gaiulli and Davide Sandrini have been closely monitoring the developments, expressing concerns about the impact such behaviors may have on the area’s tourist image. Although the substantial presence of youths from various Lombardy and Veneto cities over the weekend did not lead to serious incidents, tension between residents and local authorities remained palpable. Interventions by law enforcement, including warnings for inappropriate behaviors such as diving in prohibited areas and using loudspeakers at high volumes, have helped maintain a more orderly atmosphere. Concurrently, logistical work is underway at Campanello beach to enhance the tourist offering and better manage the influx in the coming months.
