Public Works Program 2001-2003 Highlights and Budget Allocation

Reading the annexes to the current draft budget approved before Christmas, the section of the three-year public works program outlines the Administration‘s intentions in this sector.

The program examines three years: from 2001 to 2003. For the first year, as clarified during the council discussion by the Public Works Councillor Pietro Gialdini, only certain projects with at least a preliminary design should be included.

Therefore, the projects listed for 2001 are those that will definitely be undertaken. The budget allocates a total of just under 5 billion lire for this purpose.

Investment Details

The largest expenditure is allocated to the expansion of the elementary school building to convert it into a middle school and establish the educational hub (the kindergarten, located in via Donatori di Sangue, is not included here), a project discussed for several years and previously deferred pending the educational reform.

Two billion lire are planned for this. Moving the middle school into the new building will free up the current facility, which will then serve as the municipal offices, with a budget of 130 million lire allocated for this renovation.

Instead, 920 million lire will be used for expanding the locker rooms and constructing a new multipurpose facility, a gymnasium adjacent to the football field.

600 million lire are allocated for constructing a new sewage system for black water in the Rebecco neighborhood and for drainage works for the water service in the Baite area; 200 million for renovating the west wing of the cemetery; 370 million for paving municipal streets; 340 million for upgrading via Slonghine and via Valletta.

For internal improvements to the San Luigi park and the green area between via Pertini and don Maurizio Maraglio, 200 million lire are budgeted, while 100 million will be used for the first phase of the cycle path along the state road to reach the intersection at the Selvarizzo hamlet. Finally, 43 million will be allocated for expanding the public lighting system in via Cavriana.
