Puegnago Approves Education Plan to Support Students and Community
The City Council recently approved the Right to Education Plan, for the school year 2000/2001, with the abstention of the minority groups, proposed by Councillor Michele Carafa.
In his presentation, the councillor highlighted some of the main points of the Plan aimed at promoting education and civic training among compulsory school students, including kindergarten and after-school activities if applicable.
Objectives and Services of the Plan
The program and the commitment of the municipal administration include facilitating school attendance; enabling integration into school facilities and socialization of disadvantaged minors or those experiencing developmental and learning difficulties; and helping to encourage and stimulate continued studies for meritorious students.
In the municipality of Puegnago, three school complexes are operational: the main town’s elementary school in Aione; the private kindergarten Don Giuseppe Baldo in Castello; and the state kindergarten of Raffa.
Additionally, the middle school in San Felice del Benaco receives subsidies based on the specific needs of the school.
Costs and Contributions
Among the major expenses the municipal administration will bear for its students is transportation to elementary school, costing approximately 100 million lire for the municipal budget; the cost for users has been set at 400,000 lire annually, payable in two semiannual installments, regardless of whether the service is used continuously or intermittently.
Regarding the canteen service, 8 million lire have been allocated, which will be disbursed to residents as contributions of 150 thousand lire and 70 thousand lire on the fixed registration fee for the canteen (for kindergarten or preschool and elementary school), and 150 thousand lire on the annual fee for transportation for elementary school students benefiting the second sibling, and subsequent siblings attending compulsory school.
For families facing economic hardship, defined according to I.S.E. regulations if activated, or as per current Social Services Regulations, 4 million lire have been allocated.
Many activities are planned and considered for potential grants, such as the musical propedeutic course, the art and science project, youth games, “Color Your School Green,” “Eco-Day,” etc.
Services and Student Population
The state kindergarten of Raffa offers a canteen service involving 56 students over 200 total days, while the elementary school at Aione expects 60 users across 100 days.
The current student population in Puegnago is approximately 297: 56 in public kindergarten, 36 in private, 130 in elementary, and around 75 in middle school.
The overall financial commitment for the municipal budget is approximately 300 million lire, excluding any building renovations.
