Puegnago Fair Celebrates 30 Years of Confraternity and Groppello Win

As has become customary over the years, the Puegnago Agricultural Fair will once again be one of the main events to promote one of the Valtenesi’s premier and finest wines: Groppello.

This presence has always been supported by the Confraternita del Groppello, which, on this occasion, considers the year 2000 especially significant as it marks a historic milestone for the wine fraternity, one of the oldest in the province of Brescia.

The celebrations commemorating its thirty years since founding, which took place on October 2, 1970, at the Bosatta house in Padenghe sul Garda.

The Thirtieth Anniversary and Celebrations

Coinciding with this anniversary, the current president, Diego Pasini, elected biennially and supported by the Board of Directors, wanted the thirty-year milestone to be celebrated in a special way. He provided all members, about ninety in total, with a new silver collar featuring the official emblem of the fraternity in relief.

But that’s not all. During the Puegnago Fair, scheduled for this weekend, a meeting has been organized with all enogastronomic confraternities of Lombardy, set for next Sunday, September 3.

Program of the Day

The program includes gathering at Casa Pasini, in Raffa di Puegnago, of the participants attending the Lombardy Fraternities Meeting.

At 11:00, there will be a visit to various exhibition stands with tastings of typical Garda products, followed by, at 11:20, attending the official opening of the fair itself.

At 12:30, there is an event planned around a table with the traditional Brescia-style spit roast (without small birds), polenta served alongside Groppelli selected by the tasting committee of the organizing body.

In the afternoon, to finish the spit roast and polenta, there will be an optional visit to some local wine cellars.

Conclusion and the Palio del Groppello

At 4:00 pm, but likely extended given the special sector of interest, there will be a farewell greeting from Casa Pasini, along with the presentation of a fun souvenir to all participants.

This event does not interfere with the selection process for awarding the “Palio del Groppello”.

The winner will be proclaimed as the official Groppello that will accompany the 2000/2001 social year during the convivial gathering at the end of September or early October.

During this occasion, the confraternities will proceed with the solemn proclamation via secret vote among the three anonymous contenders selected by the dedicated committee, choosing their official Groppello.

In the previous selection, the Groppello chosen—the 29th of the Confraternita—was from Azienda Agricola Masserino of Puegnago.
