Puegnago Hosts Key Meetings on Truffle, Wine, and Agricultural Legislation

It was certainly the most characteristic moment of the event—the heartfelt encounter that took place this morning, November 26, in the council chamber of the municipality of Puegnago, during the opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the Brescia Truffle Fair Market. Perhaps an unplanned moment, but one that marked an important milestone in the wine and viticulture entrepreneurial world of Puegnago and Valtenesi, and beyond: the meeting between Luigi Veronelli and Gianfranco Cominciali. A return of this internationally recognized figure in the world of oenology and now also in the olive oil sector, “44 years after I first met the Comincioli family here in Puegnago,” stated Gino Veronelli. “A presence pursued for 25 years, ever since the first movements of the Agriculture Fair, of which this Market Show is an offshoot, an appendix that has managed, moreover, to carve out a significant and proper space in the landscape of events, not only provincial,” echoed Mayor Cominciali.

Meetings and initiatives in Puegnago

But that’s not all. Yesterday morning, Puegnago witnessed the meeting between Veronelli and Francesco Ferrari, President of the Agriculture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. This week, specifically on Wednesday, a delegation from ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) will welcome him in Rome, where they will officially deliver to Rome and Parliament the 50,000 signatures collected in support of a draft Law currently before Parliament, known as the Veronelli Law.

This law is expected to conclude by next year and concerns the “Municipal Denomination of Typical Quality Agricultural Products.” From the council chamber of the municipality of Puegnago, it was announced—perhaps even reaffirmed—the commitment of the Province of Brescia to resolve the transportation and safety issues afflicting Valtenesi. Many mayors from the area were present. The main road, known as Desenzano – Salò, should become a provincial road within a few months.

Mauro Parolini confirmed the planned future construction of several roundabouts, the first of which is already underway at Crociale di Manerba; the second, in 2001, in Padenghe; the third in 2002 in Cunettone; and additional ones at Raffa di Puegnago, and probably in other locations, “without disrupting an environment that has reached its natural balance.”

Giampaolo Mantelli, Provincial Councillor for Agriculture, emphasized the importance of this new truffle-related sector in our province, highlighting that the Province itself is among the national leaders in the agricultural sector, achieving prominence in several productive fields.

Conference and conclusions

In the late afternoon, a conference on “The Truffle in the Province of Brescia” was held, featuring Virgilio Vezzosa, Loretta Marchetti, and Stefania Coltrini.
