A significant development in the field of Lake Garda purification has emerged with the decision to abandon plans for two plants in Gavardo and Montichiari, opting instead for a single plant in Lonato. During a steering committee meeting chaired by the Deputy Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Vannia Gava, discussions took place regarding the necessary works for the collection and purification of the lake’s waters. The Ministry has already allocated 100 million euros to fund these operations, emphasizing the importance of a centralized system that promises reduced costs and greater efficiency.
The meeting included key figures such as the Prefect of Brescia, Andrea Polichetti, and Senator Maria Stella Gelmini. The status of the planned works for the decommissioning of the sublacustrine sewer lines, deemed outdated and harmful to the local ecosystem, was analyzed. The operations are expected to be completed by 2030, in line with recent European regulations regarding water reuse and wastewater directives. The decision to focus efforts on a single plant in Lonato represents a targeted strategy to ensure sustainable management of water resources in the region.
