Ravana City Implements Full Parking Restrictions in Downtown Areas

Many had hoped that the parking restrictions for motorists had truly come to an end. After the rather unwelcome conversion of some areas into paid parking, there was widespread hope that the Ravana City Administration would take a moment of reflection to reconsider their approach.

Instead, the exact opposite has happened: starting Monday, the few remaining parking spots in the city center that have not yet been affected by any measure are inexorably being converted into limited-time, or ‘clocked’, parking zones. The circle is closing around drivers, in other words.

Gradually, signs are appearing everywhere, and once municipal workers finish their work, there will be nothing to do, no escape routes, no hope. It will no longer matter to circle repeatedly along viale Dante, viale Roma, or viale Prati at ten kilometers per hour, hoping that someone leaves a spot on the side without time restrictions.

From now on, to park and run errands in the city center, you’ll either need to part with your money or keep a close eye on the clock, preferably with a stopwatch. Just one hour, sixty very quick minutes, to buy flowers, pay insurance, visit the dentist, or shop — all with the worry that line at the baker’s or post office could end up costing you dearly.

Not to mention — of course — the problems faced by those who must stay in the center all day for work. The first areas to become fully restricted zones were viale Roma and Viale Dante, where even previously free sides now have the hated signs.

Yesterday, the parking lot at the hospital was also affected, a place where people used to seek treatment for the chronic shortage of parking. In the coming days, it will be the turn of all viale Prati, viale San Francesco, via Bastione, via Lavino Est — recently the site of contested removals —, via Pilati, and the west side of the tormented via Filanda.

If you are parking on these streets over the next few days, check the signage carefully: perhaps there isn’t a sign yet, but it could be installed while you are away. In any case, start getting used to it now: get moving.
