Bernardo Bembassat and Elisa Bottor, two Parisian Jews of Turkish origin, found during World War II, saving themselves from extermination between 1943 and 1945. Their story initially took place in Toscolano Maderno and later in Costa di Gargnano, where an important baptismal record preserved at the Parish provided crucial evidence of their history. This narrative has been reconstructed through testimonies and verifications by Tullio Righettini and Remo Franzoni, with the account written by Bruno Festa.
The publication recounting their experience will be presented on Monday, August 18, at 8:25 PM in the church of San Bartolomeo in Costa di Gargnano. This event represents an important opportunity to reflect on the local Jewish history and the significance of rescue in such a dramatic context as that of the Holocaust.
