Region Plans Major Infrastructure Upgrades for Goitese in Next 7 Years

To adequately upgrade the Goitese, 400 billion euros are needed, but the Region, overwhelmed by numerous requests from across Lombardy, cannot allocate the entire sum. It will be able to do so over the next 6-7 years. Hence, the need to identify priorities.

Meetings and main projects

Yesterday at the Pirellone, the infrastructure councilor Massimo Corsaro conducted an initial review of the issues, present — in addition to Anas managers and regional councillors Boni, Lucchini, and Viotto — administrators from the Provinces of Mantova and Brescia and the Municipalities of Mantova, Porto, Marmirolo, Goito, Guidizzolo, Castiglione delle Stiviere, Castenedolo, and Montichiari. Another meeting will be held in December for further in-depth discussion.

Several projects were examined yesterday. Here are the main ones: completion of the Mantova Nord bypass, with a scheduled expenditure of 169 billion euros; construction of “lotto 0” in Porto, estimated at 17-20 billion euros; Marmirolo bypass, which is already 80% ready for construction, estimated at 25 billion euros; Goito bypass, with a feasibility study completed, estimated at 80 billion euros; redevelopment of the Volta Contino intersection, estimated at 4 billion euros; Guidizzolo bypass, with the final design ongoing, estimated at 75 billion euros.

Impressions and positions

At the end of the meeting, everyone expressed positive feedback. The Vice President of the Province Claudio Camocardi said that a good preliminary work was carried out. “We analyzed — he specified — all critical points of the Goitese, firmly considering the necessary funding to have infrastructures suited to traffic and economic development. In December, we will need to identify priorities. The method adopted suits us well. Underlying the meeting was the Tibre issue, and we reiterated the need to focus on a route different from the ‘high’ one.”

The municipal councilor of Mantova Luciano Battù stated that the completion of the Mantova Nord Bypass is a strategic intervention for the entire socio-productive system of the area. The preliminary project has already been delivered to Anas some time ago.

The mayor of Guidizzolo, Carlo Maccari, expressed enthusiasm about the Milan summit. “It is important,” he noted, “that the Region has committed to launching a financial plan that allows the entire Goitese to be upgraded within 6-7 years. The priorities will be announced in mid-December; clearly, those with more advanced projects will access funds first. We already have the preliminary plan ready and are about to finalize the definitive version. Once the entire highway is renewed, new opportunities will arise, considering that Brescia, saturated with companies, is very willing to extend its production hubs into Upper Mantua.”
