Regional Fishery and Environmental Projects Highlighted by Alessandro Sala
Alessandro Sala feels more than ever like the fishery commissioner. “I am enthusiastic about the progress made and those to come,” he confesses, beaming. “We have revived a world that had been suffering for years, just as we did with hunting.”
For the first time, days of respect for amateur fishermen are scheduled. Now I have three goals for 2001.” First, the youth. “We need to create a new culture,” Sala says, “students must understand that fishing and the environment go hand in hand.”
Future Goals and Projects
The first information campaign has already yielded excellent results. We will continue on the same path. Also, I am very concerned about the fate of the ittiogenico institute in the city, which has been a problem for more than ten years.
I wrote a letter to Formigoni, because it is the Region that must decide. We want it to become a museum-aquarium for school groups, as well as a testing institute for the breeding of prestigious fish species. If, on the other hand, the Municipality follows the line of turning it into a public park, we will oppose it.
Incubators and Environmental Protection
Regarding the incubators, “after Tremosine and Vezza d’Oglio, it will be Pezzaze or Collio’s turn: by 2003, each valley will have an incubator. We are also trying to reactivate Gargnano.”
We will sign an agreement with the zooprophylactic institute to determine whether the fish released into public waters are safe. I am confident, especially since I can rely on interlocutors like the Viviana Beccalossi assessor in the Region.
We will always be listened to.” Beccalossi agrees with Sala on a bill already proposed to the Pirellone: for young people, seniors, and people with disabilities, it will be easier to go fishing because the procedures for obtaining a license will be simplified.
“This project,” explains Beccalossi, “places great emphasis on the planning and management of the ichthyofauna, to increase and better protect this heritage.”
