On the evening of May 10th, the reopening of the 240 state road in the Ledro Valley in Mezzolago is scheduled, initially with alternating one-way traffic. The road had been interrupted by a landslide on February 11th.
The restoration and safety measures of the road have been urgently initiated after the collapse. The Department of Infrastructure and Transport of the Province, in collaboration with the Road Management Service and the Geological Service, has coordinated the intervention, which will be completed in the coming weeks.
Several operations have been carried out to ensure the safety of the road. The rock wall downstream of the carriageway has been consolidated through the installation of metal lining nets and some anchoring. The safety barrier (guard rail) has been repositioned on the valley edge. These interventions will subsequently allow traffic to resume in both directions.
The road had been closed due to the fall of approximately 300-400 cubic meters of debris and large rocks, near the hydroelectric power plant intake. During the works, it was necessary to remove the demolition residue material deposited on the carriageway and build a reinforced concrete counterfort near the original niche from which the collapse originated.
The works were complex due to the presence of the hydroelectric power plant intake structure in the immediate vicinity of the rocky corner from which the landslide detached. It was necessary to temporarily move the backbone of the Ledro Valley telephone line before proceeding with the demolition of the unstable volumes.
The companies involved in the works were Za srl from Nago Torbole, Georock srl from Spiazzo Rendena, Santoni Autogrù srl from Trento, Lattoneria Trentina srl from Arco, Vallecos snc from Ledro, and Betonscavi srl from Storo.
