The Forra Road has been reopened, marking a significant step for tourism in the Upper Garda after nearly two decades of closure due to landslides. The announcement has generated considerable interest on social media, with over 62,000 views on the dedicated Facebook page. Alberto Giuntelli, president of the local association and owner of Plusmarket in Pregasio, expressed his satisfaction with the reopening, emphasizing the road’s importance as a symbol of the Benaco area. Despite the damage sustained during the long period of inactivity, local merchants are determined to restart and collaborate with institutions to recover the tourist flow that once reached up to 10,000 daily crossings.
Among the voices of the merchants is Mauro Leonesio, owner of the jewelry store and Ferrari Point in Pieve di Tremosine, who hopes for a strong second half of the season despite the adverse weather conditions on the day of reopening. Stephane Baruffa, owner of Hotel Paradiso, also highlighted the negative impact of the halt to tourist traffic on his business and called for promotional initiatives from local authorities to attract visitors even during the low season. With the road now reopened, the community looks to the future with renewed hope for the revival of tourism in the area.
