Regional Councillor Alessandro Beduschi has announced that **this year, coregoni will return to Lake Garda**, marking a significant turning point for local fishing. This repopulation, previously halted by the Ministry of the Environment due to the classification of coregoni as an “alien” species, is scheduled for 2025. In support of professional fishermen, Beduschi has introduced a funding program of 900,000 euros and expressed optimism regarding the return of the lavarello coregone. The demand to restore repopulation efforts had strongly emerged from the Brescia shore, where 35 fishermen launched a petition to raise public awareness.
Additionally, as of January 1st, the management of the fish hatchery in Desenzano has changed and is now under the direction of the technical firm Habitat 2.0, led by ichthyologist Marco Mancini. This new management aims to ensure the future of the species and to combat the risk of extinction of the carpione, an endemic species particularly vulnerable in the lake. Through these initiatives, the Lombardy Region is committed to protecting and enhancing local fish resources.
