A mute swan was rescued on Saturday, May 3, in San Felice del Benaco, after becoming trapped in a fishing net while incubating five eggs. A report from a boater alerted WWF, which promptly involved the Provincial Police and the Coast Guard to locate the distressed animal. The responders found the injured swan among the reeds, struggling to make its way back to its nest.

The rescue was carried out by WWF operator Paolo Zanollo, who swam to the bird and transported it onto a Coast Guard vessel. There, experts removed the hooks that had become lodged in the animal’s right wing, allowing it to regain mobility. After receiving the necessary care, the mute swan was released near its nest, ready to continue incubating its eggs. This intervention highlights the importance of collaboration among various forces for the rescue of animals and the protection of local biodiversity.
