Riva Celebrates Boat Blessing Despite Construction Near the Tunnel
Construction work on the tunnel for Limone will definitely not stop the Amici della Tirlindana of Riva. Tomorrow morning, as usual, they will gather in front of the Madonnina shrine, right below the site of the new tunnel on the Gardesana Occidentale, to renew one of the oldest and most cherished traditions among the residents of Riva: the blessing of boats and the “barcaroi” at the Madonnina.
The procession and the blessing ceremony
The procession, organized in collaboration with the Fraglia della Vela and the Riva fire brigade, will also include Mayor Malossini, who has issued a special ordinance to allow motorboats to navigate during the event.
For safety reasons, the ceremony will take place outside the buoys marking the construction site. It should be noted that Collini-Oberosler, the company working to bore the Rocchetta tunnel in record time, will participate in the event with its own delegation and has offered to decorate the shrine with some flowers (also ensuring that no mines will be exploded during the celebration).
Invitation to the blessing and weather conditions
All boaters, whether for work or leisure, on Lake Garda are invited to the picturesque blessing that will start at eleven o’clock. Those without boats will be provided free pedal boats from Punta Lido and Broglio.
If the weather is bad, the festivities will be postponed to next week.
