Riva Council Advances Multifunctional Basketball Arena at Palafiere
Everyone agrees on basketball at pavilion C of the Palafiere della Baltera. Yes, but with one condition: that there is also space for others. This was decided by the city council, which, last night, discussed the motion presented by Margherita councilor Ivo Bombardelli, to request a budget variation and urge Lido di Riva spa to “support” the transfer of Gs Basket Riva Garda Cartiere from Palagarda to the Baltera facility, sparking a lively debate.
Considerations on the Compatibility between Trade Fair Activities and Sports
Having established that there is no incompatibility between trade fair activities and sports, the discussion lasted until 11 pm. The debate centered around the suitability of the arena to host a large number of spectators (over 1600) and, not least, the multifunctionality of the structure itself. Enzo Bassetti emphasized the need to create a facility that is not used exclusively for basketball but which, with some modifications, can host other events as well.
Proposals and Decisions Regarding the Structure
On this line, Stefano Lotti presented an amendment to Bombardelli’s motion. This was followed by a decision to suspend work for ten minutes and develop a document that, while maintaining the original objectives, focused on the multifunctionality of the structure. Ultimately, approving the new document (24 in favor and 1 abstention), the Riva city council invites the mayor to contact the presidents of Palacongressi and Lido di Riva to agree on and verify the arrangements for setting up a multifunctional facility and related services to be used also for high-level events such as basketball.
Technical Interventions and Timelines
This includes laying the parquet flooring, purchasing new telescopic bleachers to replace the existing fixed metal ones at Palagarda, and creating services for players and referees. All of this to make pavilion C of the trade fair complex, in compliance with current urban planning regulations, suitable by October 31st, with defined solutions for sports, cultural, and recreational events, without excluding alternative options.
Forecasts and Modes of Proposal Submission
Alternative hypotheses must be submitted by July 31st to the group leaders’ conference for variations. In this regard, the Municipal Administration will seek the necessary financial coverage through an appropriate budget variation.
