Riva del Garda is preparing for a significant change in its urban landscape: the replacement of palm trees decimated by palm moth with other tree species. The replacement program, developed by Luca Grazioli, the councilor for urban quality, in collaboration with the municipal gardens and approved by the Municipal Council, involves replacing over a hundred trees in the coming months.

The streets affected by the replacements are Viale Damiano Chiesa, Luigi Antonio Baruffaldi, Dante Alighieri, Martiri del 28 Giugno 1944, and Francesca Alberti Lutti. In Viale Damiano Chiesa, which is currently planted with Chinese palms, 16 flowering apple trees will be planted alternated with 16 maples of three different species. These trees were chosen for their height development, which is suitable for the limited available space.

In Viale Baruffaldi, also currently planted with Chinese palms, flowering apple and flowering pear trees will be planted. In Viale Dante Est, all the palm trees will be replaced with bitter orange trees to maintain continuity with the western part of the avenue.

In Viale Martiri, Chinese palms will be replaced with maples of three different species, as in Viale Damiano Chiesa. Finally, in Viale Francesca Alberti Lutti, new trees will be planted, consisting of maples in the eastern part, a healthy palm tree recovered from Viale Baruffaldi in the central part, and maples in the western part, in continuity with Viale Martiri.

In addition to these replacements, other new trees are planned in different areas of Riva del Garda, such as a weeping willow at Sabbioni Beach, a cork oak on Via Brione, “autumn blaze” maples at Pini Beach and in the Varone Kindergarten Park, and espaliered lemons in planters.

Councilor Grazioli emphasized the importance of this tree replacement program for Riva del Garda and thanked the municipal structures involved for their commitment despite the lack of personnel. The estimated cost for this intervention is approximately 70,000 euros.

The expression of interest procedure for carrying out the replacements will be initiated shortly, although the expected timeline will not be short due to the limited availability of plants. However, this intervention is necessary to preserve the beauty of the city. You can find more information on the news here.
