Forty-five bands from ten nations, two thousand musicians, nearly four thousand attendees including escorts: in Riva, the 2001 tourist season kicks off with music. The format devised by the Comitato manifestazioni involves an invasion of music during the weekend immediately before Easter: choirs and bands, alternating years, compete according to well-known categories and classifications to assess the level of excellence reached after long months of rehearsals, certified by international juries composed of highly esteemed musicians.

Activities and community spirit

At the same time, Riva offers the opportunity to meet, reconnect old friendships, and forge new ones; to listen to others and measure oneself in an atmosphere of friendliness and openness. The entire event is enhanced by some concerts provided for residents and guests, true gems for enthusiasts. While Spain and Portugal are absent this year, Ukraine, France, Switzerland, and Latvia have joined in to show the sector’s vitality. Foreign participation accounts for more than half: precisely 53 percent, with a substantial presence of Germans (21), Austrians (9), and then Slovenians, Finns, and Estonians.

Italian participants and final evening

To defend the home colors, there are bands from Cavedine, Pomarolo, Albiano, Aldeno, Colfosco-Corvara, and Roncone. Tonight at the Casinò di Arco, four bands are competing: Musikzug Rostal, Studenten Blasorchester of Riga, Mladinski Phalni Orchester of Nova Gorica, and Jugend Blasorchester of Borgloh. Tomorrow evening, the grand finale and awards ceremony.
